This is an opportunity for someone who is interested in working in a Medical Laboratory and is keen to work towards gaining a qualification in Specimen Services, i.e. someone who receipts and prepares samples prior to laboratory testing.

Our teams consists of talented and skilled individuals, all of whom play an important role in helping us to be New Zealand's leading provider of quality private healthcare services.

Our busy Invercargill Laboratory, based at Southland Hospital, is looking for 2 x casual Pre-Analytical Technicians to work collaboratively as part of the team and willing to be trained to cover annual / sick leave and work as and when required. Flexibility to work hours / days that are both planned and unplanned is highly desirable and will be invaluable to the team, with the ability to work under pressure, an eye for detail and problem-solving ability.

Key tasks include barcoding, receipting and preparing specimens coming in to the laboratory; performing data entry of patient and test details; answering telephones; with potential to learn phlebotomy.

To succeed in this role you will need the following and/or we will provide you with on the job training and support you through the process to become qualified:

  • Medical Science Council of NZ registration or willing to work towards becoming a Qualified Specimen Services Technician.
  • The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
  • Customer focus and commitment to providing a high quality of service to internal and external customers with effective interpersonal skills
  • A sound knowledge of medical terminology, laboratory operations including; safety, operation of equipment and hands-on practical experience is desirable but not essential.
